Two undergraduate students of Ashoka University in Haryana’s Sonipat passed away in separate, unrelated incidents Friday, the varsity said in an official statement. Authorities have launched an investigation into the deaths.
Sonipat police said the bodies of the second-year students were taken to the Civil Hospital for post-mortem.
According to the university, a suicide note was allegedly discovered in one student’s room, and he was found unresponsive shortly after. A few hours later, another student reportedly lost consciousness outside the campus.
As per an email sent to students and alumni from Vice-Chancellor Somak Raychaudhury’s office, the two men were evaluated by the physician on duty at the campus infirmary before being rushed to the nearest hospital in the university’s ambulance, where they were pronounced dead.
University officials informed the parents of both students early on Saturday. “…they will be arriving shortly… (The two) were bright students with promising futures ahead of them. They will be remembered by all as gifted students whose untimely passing away has left the Ashoka community devastated,” read the email.
In a separate statement the university said, “The departed students were integral members of the Ashoka community and will be deeply missed by all. Our hearts go out to the bereaved family members, and we are providing all the support required in their hour of grief.”
The varsity has agreed to fully cooperate with the ongoing inquiries.
