Nine people have lost their lives and several others injured in separate road accidents in Niger and Lagos States on Monday. In Niger State, five travellers died and 20 others sustained severe injuries when a trailer carrying 600 bags of soybeans and 27 passengers crashed along the Lapai–Agaie Road at Nami village.
The vehicle, travelling from Kano to Lagos, reportedly lost control due to deplorable road conditions. In Lagos, four persons, including a traffic officer, a commercial motorcyclist, and his two passengers, were killed when a truck suffering brake failure rammed into the Badagry roundabout’s garden fence.
The driver reportedly blared his horn to warn others before crashing. FRSC Niger Sector Commander Aishat Sa’ad confirmed the incidents. Residents in Lagos have called for stricter safety standards for heavy-duty trucks.
