Two soldiers and some civilians have been allegedly killed in a fresh attack by some members of the Boko Haram terrorists group in Gwoza Local Government Area of Borno State.

The attack by the terrorists took place in a community habouring residents who were recently resettled after previous attacks by the group.

Security sources privy to the incident said that the terrorists first launched an attack on Yamtake military formation at about 11.15 pm on Thursday, April 17, before they moved into the community, killing residents and destroying property worth millions.

A source within the military who confirmed the attack said, there will be reinforcement by the force as soon as possible.

“We are waiting for the reinforcement team to return, but we learnt that two of our men and other civilians were affected. I advise we wait until they return,” the source said.

Reacting to reports of the attack, Ali Ndume, the Senator representing Borno South senatorial district in the Nigerian Senate said it is sad that soldiers had to pay the supreme in the fight against insurgency in the state.

He described the attack as unfortunate and devastating, especially as the affected residents have just been resettled into the community by the Borno State government.

The lawmaker said, “It is very sad that two soldiers paid the supreme price, while an unspecified number of innocent civilians were among the casualties. May their gentle souls rest in peace.”
