“Yorubas must remain united” – Rep member rallies support for Tinubu ahead of 2027

Hon. Leke Abejide, a former Kogi State governorship candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), has called on Yoruba leaders in Northern Nigeria to unite and support President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid in 2027.

Speaking at the 10th anniversary of the Association of Yoruba Traditional Leaders and Obas in the Northern States and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) in Abuja, Abejide reiterated the importance of Yoruba unity in maintaining national influence.

“Yorubas form a significant part of Nigeria’s population. If we are removed from the equation, the gap will be deeply felt. That’s why we must remain united,” he stated.

Abejide, who represents Yagba Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives and serves as Chairman of the House Committee on Customs and Excise, pledged his support for the association’s development but urged Yoruba leaders to align with Tinubu’s administration.

“I will support you, but only if we work together to support the President. Many of you are excelling in your fields and earning respect across communities. That influence must be channelled appropriately,” he added.

He announced the launch of a 57.2-kilometre road project and unveiled plans for a state-of-the-art Yoruba palace in Kano.

“This is more than just a structure; it’s about strengthening our influence and ensuring the welfare of our people. When Yoruba people speak with one voice, we make a real impact,” he stressed.

Other dignitaries at the event, including the newly appointed Chairman of the association, Muritala Adeleke, and the Aragbiji of Iragbiji, Oba Abdul Rasheed Ayotunde Olabomi, echoed calls for unity, urging Yoruba leaders in the North to maintain strong ties with their traditional rulers back home.
