Osimhen has long been linked with a move to Chelsea, but the proposed move has yet to see the light of day.
The Blues came close to signing the Nigerian international last summer, but the deal fell through due to disagreements over personal terms.
The 26-year-old eventually signed for Galatasaray on a season-long loan in early September following the collapse of his highly anticipated move to Chelsea on transfer deadline day.
Fonte believes the former African Footballer of the Year is the profile of striker Enzo Maresca’s side needs, as he could turn out to be the next Didier Drogba at Stamford Bridge.
“Chelsea are crying out for a striker like Victor Osimhen,” the former Southampton defender told BoyleSports.
“Look at Chelsea and all the greats they have had up front. As a striker, he could be another Didier Drogba for them. He is a winner.
“They have a different style of play, and Drogba is a legend, but [Osimhen] has pace, power, and technical quality. He wins his duels and is such a handful for defenders.”
Fonte also recounted his experience facing the former Lille striker in the UEFA Champions League.
“When I saw Victor Osimhen go to Galatasaray, I thought it was foolish that no Premier League club had signed him.
“Once Osimhen gets into the Premier League, I think he will bully defenders. He is aggressive, fast, clever, and powerful.
“I played against him in the Champions League, and I’m sure he took it easy on me as a friend at almost 40, but it was still a nightmare.”
