Nasarawa Assembly not a Rubber Stamp

Speaker Danladi Jatau of the Nasarawa State House of Assembly has dismissed suggestions that the legislature serves merely as a “rubber stamp” for the executive, insisting instead on a cooperative yet independent relationship between both arms of government.

In an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Friday, Jatau vowed that the 7th Assembly will continue to work with Governor Abdullahi Sule “to bring speedy and steady development to the state,” while maintaining its own oversight functions.

“For any government to progress, there must be cordial working relationship among the arms of government; the three arms of government must work together for any meaningful development to take place,” he said.

Addressing critics, the Speaker added, “Whoever is saying that we are a rubber stamp is just an enemy of progress and may be an enemy of the state as well. I want to categorically state that we are not and we will never be a rubber stamp assembly. But we will continue to support the governor to succeed.”

Jatau highlighted the tangible impact of Governor Sule’s six-year record, noting that projects delivered under his administration “have direct bearing on the people of the state.” He praised the governor’s inclusive approach to governance, affirming that “the interest of all citizens has been generally captured.”

Commending his fellow legislators, Jatau celebrated their decision “to unite irrespective of party affiliation to support the ongoing developmental strides in the state.”

On the federal level, he extended congratulations to President Bola Tinubu on the second anniversary of his administration, lauding “the massive ongoing infrastructural development across the country.” He urged Nigerians to rally behind both the president and state governors to ensure continued progress nationwide.
