Nigerian women in Abuja have raised an alarm after being deceived into coming for food, only to be handed placards to protest against the upcoming hardship protest.
A woman, who was heard in a video weeping over the deceit, explained in Hausa that they were told to come to the venue to collect free food.
However, upon arrival, they were given placards to protest against the August 1 protest. After their photos were taken and posted online, they were abandoned.
She lamented that they were left without food or transportation fare to return to their respective homes.
Videos and photos were circulating on social media of women from across the states protesting against the upcoming hardship protest, scheduled to last for ten days.
This protest aimed to express displeasure at the hunger, insecurity, inflation, exchange rate, corruption, and high cost of living affecting many families and businesses in Nigeria.
The video sparked mixed reactions, with many condemning the women for their actions.
Less than 24 hours later, the women expressed disappointment over the deceit and the government’s failure to fulfil their promise.
