Given the situation, Owerri, the capital of Imo State, and its environs were completely deserted without any movement of people within or outside the state.
Our correspondent in Owerri gathered that there was a complete abandonment of roads, streets, markets, and schools. Both commercial banks, filling stations, motor parks, hotels, and shops in the streets of Owerri were closed down.
The situation was not different on the major roads linking the state, such as Owerri/Onitsha Road, Owerri/Umuahia Road, and Owerri/Port Harcourt Road, all of which were also deserted.
Only security operatives were on steady patrol, moving from one side of the state to the other, in line with the deployment of security personnel to ensure water-tight security in the state.
Residents chose to stay back in their homes rather than come out for any protest.
Reacting to the situation in a telephone chat, the President General of the Coalition of Nigerian Youth Leaders (CONYL), Comrade Goodluck Ibem, said that both the president of CONYL and the Coalition of South East Youth Leaders had moved around to ensure that there was no protest against Mr President, who is already doing well in transforming the country’s economy.
He described it as unfortunate that President Tinubu inherited a bad economy, but assured that he is doing his best to bring the economy back on track.
He called on Nigerians to give him more time to reposition the country for the best interest of all.
