The initially peaceful protest was hijacked by hoodlums who exploited the situation, causing chaos and destruction. These unruly individuals attempted to storm the Kaduna State Government House, injuring two policemen and damaging a police armored personnel carrier stationed at the entrance. They also attacked the office and staff of the Kaduna State traffic law enforcement agency (KASTLEA), setting fire to the office and other adjacent state government buildings.
In the aftermath, 25 hoodlums were arrested, with various weapons and evidence of their violent intent, including scissors, jack knives, and live 7.62 X 39mm ammunition recovered from Hassan Ibrahim of the Rigasa area in Kaduna. Additionally, one suspect was arrested for impersonating a police officer by wearing a police camouflage uniform.
Despite the Inspector General of Police advising groups intending to protest to liaise with the Commissioner of Police to ensure a peaceful demonstration, no individual or group has notified the Kaduna Police Command of any protest plans. Consequently, any attempt to protest violently will result in those individuals or groups being treated as miscreants.
The Commissioner of Police for Kaduna State, CP A.D. Ali, has urged parents and guardians to prevent their wards from disturbing public peace. He emphasized that the command will handle any such disturbances with the utmost seriousness.
