Okupe’s remains moved to morgue, possible funeral date revealed

Hours after his passing, the body of the late Doyin Okupe, a former presidential aide and ex-spokesperson for the Peter Obi Campaign Organisation is being moved to the morgue.

Recall that Okupe, a politician and medical doctor, died during a surgery in an undisclosed hospital in Lagos at the age of 72.

Family sources said all the needed arrangements are being made to ensure his body is moved to the morgue as of Friday morning.

Survived by seven children, the source added that the late politician and former presidential aide to Goodluck Jonathan would likely be laid to rest after Easter.

Sahara Reporters quoted the source as saying, “He has seven children, and four or five of them are currently out of the country. He is being taken to the mortuary now.”

The source added that Okupe’s burial would have to be delayed until after the Lent and Ramadan period. He said the ceremony might be held on April 20, 2025.

“He was in Abuja and returned to Lagos a few days ago, in fact, less than a week ago. He went for a surgery at a hospital on the Lagos Island but he didn’t survive the surgery,” the source noted.
