APC Chieftains Totally Disagree Over Alleged Party’s Hijack in Delta
Two chieftains of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Delta State have disagreed over the management of the party in the state.
While a former lawmaker, Hon. Efe Ofobruku, decried a “takeover mentality” by some former members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) who recently defected to the APC, the director general of Delta State Bureau for Communications and Orientation, Dr Latimore Oghenesivbe, assured that there are no plans by defectors to hijack Delta APC as alleged.
Ofobruku, accused certain former PDP members of orchestrating what he called “kangaroo suspensions” and “illegal removals” of APC officials in some local government areas, including Ughelli North and Ethiope West, without following due process.
“Some persons who are already eyeing elective offices in 2027, with the support of these new entrants, suddenly met and announced the suspension of APC chairmen in Ughelli North and Ethiope West. That is unlawful.
“Section 36 of the 1999 Constitution provides for fair hearing. What we see in Delta APC today are kangaroo activities. These actions will only overheat the system,” he warned.
But Oghenesivbe described Ofobruku’s outburst as unfounded, misleading and a divisive political statement, saying that such spurious allegation on national television ought not to emanate from a former lawmaker in the state.
The DG, assured that there are no signs of hijack, and there would be no need for hijacking, noting that over 95 per cent of party members and supporters in the state are happy with the leadership under governor Oborevwori.
He appealed to Hon Ofobruku to of necessity align himself with the expanded APC family in the state, work with the state party chairman and other stakeholders, and avoid making divisive political statements.
“It is not true that some persons are trying to hijack Delta APC as erroneously alleged by Hon Efe Ofobruku. The party is now one big and united family under the leadership of the state governor, Rt Hon Sheriff Oborevwori, JP.
“Hon Ofobruku allegation is grossly unfounded, laughable, and he should of necessity embrace reality, and align himself with the expanded APC family in the state.
“Delta APC is on course and ready for landslide victory in the forthcoming general elections. All hands must be on deck to further grow the party through the ongoing online membership registration exercise,” he stated.
