Galatasaray striker, Victor Osimhen has noted that Chelsea legend, Didier Drogba played a big part in shaping the player he has become today.
Victor Osimhen, who has often mentioned Drogba as his childhood idol, reflected on how closely he studied the former striker’s style and mentality while growing up.
After Galatasaray’s convincing 3-0 victory over Ajax in the Champions League on Wednesday night, the Nigerian forward once again credited Drogba for inspiring his journey.
“I have to be grateful for [Didier Drogba] because for all I am now, I think I attribute some of my successes to him,” Osimhen told UEFA’s official website.
“He was the one that I actually picked to see the way he plays, to try to add some of his qualities that he does that make him one of the most sought-after strikers in world football during his playing time.”
Osimhen, 26, has often been compared to Drogba because of his strength, movement, and hunger for goals. Much like the former Chelsea star, he combines physical presence with intelligent positioning and an unrelenting desire to score.
Since joining Galatasaray, the Nigerian international has quickly established himself as a key figure for the Turkish giants. Naija News reports that his double against Ajax has made him the club’s first player to score in 8 consecutive European games.
Victor Osimhen is expected to be in action for Galatasaray against Kocaelispor later this weekend in the Turkish Super Lig.
