BREAKING: Bandits kill 62-year-old APC chieftain in Zamfara

Some gunmen operating in Gidan Dawa in Tsafe LGA of Zamfara state have killed a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Umar Moriki.

The gunmen reportedly killed Moriki while he was returning from a party event on Saturday, November 15.

Sources said he was returning to Kaduna from the event in Gusau, the Zamfara State capital, when the incident happened.

It was gathered that an APC chieftain was part of the party stakeholders who attended the meeting and reception organised by the state’s chapter of the ruling party in honour of the Minister of State for Defence, Bello Matawalle, who was visiting Zamfara.

He has since been buried on Saturday according to Islamic rites.

A statement issued by the spokesperson for the APC in Zamfara, Yusuf Gusau

APC spokesperson in Zamfara, said the late Moriki attended the event alongside other key stakeholders of the party.

“The deceased during his lifetime, had held various political positions in the state including vice-chairman of Zurmi local government area, director-general of the state revenue generation and special adviser on rural electrification among others.

“He died at the age of 62 years and was survived by three wives and many children,” Gusau said.

He also noted that the minister has also cancelled all his engagements held in his hometown of Maradun for the day in order to attend the funeral prayer of the party chieftain.

“All the APC leaders, executives, members and supporters have already arrived in Gusau to attend the funeral of the fallen leader who contested the Zurmi/Shinkafi House of Representatives constituency of the state in the 2023 elections,” the statement added.
