On Saturday, a peace deal was struck between bandit groups and community stakeholders from Kankia, Kusada and Ingawa LGAs of Katsina State.
According to journalist Bakatsine (@DanKatsina50), three council chairmen were present during the meeting, though Kusada was represented by his Vice Chairman.
“My sources confirm that negotiations ended with mutual commitments to halt attacks in the affected areas, raising hopes for a more stable security environment.
“However, the big question remains: WHAT HAPPENS TO NEIGHBORING LGAs ACROSS THE BORDER IN KANO STATE?” the journalist asked,
“I’ve raised this concern before, yet it’s still unclear why Kano and Katsina authorities are not working in closer coordination. If you’ve been following the patterns of banditry, you’ll understand why this new deal could unintentionally deepen risks for communities in Kano.
“De-escalation in one zone often shifts pressure to the next. The coming days will reveal whether this agreement secures peace or shifts the threat elsewhere.”
