Tinubu renames Kano’s Federal University of Education, says it will inspire future generations

President Bola Tinubu has renamed the Federal University of Education, Kano, as the Yusuf Maitama Sule Federal University of Education, a move he believes will inspire future generations to uphold values of integrity, patriotism, character, and nationalism.

The decision was announced in a statement by Tinubu’s spokesman, Bayo Onanuga, on Monday.

The president emphasized that immortalizing the legacy of the late Ambassador Yusuf Maitama Sule would serve as a reminder of his contributions to Nigeria’s socio-political development.

The statement, titled President Tinubu Approves Renaming of Federal University of Education Kano to Yusuf Maitama Sule Federal University of Education, highlighted that the institution, originally established by the Kano State Government, is now one of seven specialized universities of education under the Federal Government.

Maitama Sule, who lived between 1929 and 2017, was a respected statesman, diplomat, and nationalist.

He served as Nigeria’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, where he chaired the UN Special Committee Against Apartheid.
