Nigeria’s track and field athlete, Tobi Amusan, has begun her quest for a medal at the Paris Olympics by finishing in first place in women’s 100 meters hurdles heat race.

The Commonwealth and African champion won her heat with a time of 12.49 seconds, beating USA’s Alaysha Johnson, who finished second with 12.61s.

Jamaica’s Janeek Brown came in third place with a time of 12.84 seconds.

The 27-year-old is now through to the semifinals of women’s 100m hurdles.

Amusan, who made her Olympics debut in Tokyo three years ago, is the current world record holder in the women’s 100 meters hurdles with a time of 12.12 seconds.

She set this record at the 2022 World Athletics Championship in Eugene, Oregon.
