The President also admitted that an “avoidable lag” between subsidy removal and his “good and helpful plans” compounded Nigerians’ pains.

He said, “Fellow Nigerians, this period may be hard on us and there’s no doubt that it is tough on us but I urge you all to look beyond the present temporary pains and aim at the larger picture. All our good and helpful plans are in the works. More importantly, I know that they would work. Sadly, there was an avoidable lag between subsidy removal and these plans coming fully on line.”

The president, however, assured that the measures his government has taken would get the country out of the lingering economic crisis, urging Nigerians to have faith in his administration.

Meanwhile, the Director-General of the National Orientation Agency (NOA), Lanre Issa-Onilu, had emphasized that reinstating the fuel subsidy would exacerbate poverty in Nigeria.

The former spokesman of the ruling APC encouraged citizens to develop strategies to cope with the economic impact of its removal by President Bola Tinubu’s administration.

Issa-Onilu, argued that the demands by #EndBadGovernance protesters for the return of the subsidy are driven by emotion rather than economic rationale.

He stated on Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily that reintroducing the subsidy would worsen poverty rather than alleviate it.

The APC chieftain, however, urged Nigerians to focus on how to adapt to the subsidy removal and highlighted government efforts to support survival without it.
