“Welcome to recolonisation 2.0!” Sowore kicks as US request seek to establish drone base in Nigeria

Former presidential candidate Omoyele Sowore has said United States President Donald Trump bombed Nigeria so he could give his country complete control of Nigeria’s airspace.

MyNigeria reported that Trump ordered an airstrike on terrorist camps in Sokoto on Christmas Day, destroying their logistic base. This was after he made claims of a genocide against Christians in Nigeria.

Since then, the US has been cooperating with Nigeria to put an end to terrorism by Islamic jihadists and Fulani militia, which has driven many minorities and Christians from their villages.

Recently, the US AFRICOM delegates arrived in Nigeria to meet with President Bola Tinubu at the Aso Villa, as part of continued cooperation to end insecurity in the country.

Reports indicate that the US has requested permission to establish a drone refuelling station in Nigeria as part of expanding security cooperation. The facility would support US surveillance and strike-capable drones operating from Accra, Ghana, into Nigerian airspace.

Talks are reportedly advanced, with a North-East state designated as host, raising fresh questions about sovereignty, regional security, and the scale of America’s military footprint in West Africa.

Reacting, Sowore wrote on X, “Here comes the US @USAfricaCommand base. This is exactly why @realDonaldTrump bombed Nigeria in the name of so-called ‘Christian genocide,’ and with this, the United States has positioned itself to gain complete control of Nigeria’s airspace under the guise of security cooperation. This is how foreign occupation is packaged in modern times! Welcome to recolonisation 2.0!”
