A beggar from Rigiyar Zaki who spoke to NAN explained how difficult it has been for them to survive since the start of the protests.

He noted that beggars rely on daily earnings to cater for their families, however due to the protests, they have been unable to make ends meet.

The 70-year-old beggar noted that his family of 14 barely had food to eat and are forced to survive on water alone.

He said, “We have not eaten anything in our household of 14 for two days in the last four days except water.

For God’s sake, please reach out to those who organised the protests to end them by negotiating with the government.”

Some of the beggars in the northern state reiterated the call for the protests to be stopped as many have run out of food.

A beggar named Malama Mario Kabiru of Hotoro quarters said: “We have run out of foodstuffs and we can’t go out to buy more. We don’t have money, and the situation is unbearable.”

Another identified as Malam Isa Musa of Dorayi quarters called on the federal government to implement measures to ensure the provision of food for the elderly.

“We are begging because we have no one to support us. Since the curfew was introduced, we have not eaten anything in the last three days with our families.
“We can’t continue like this; kindly let the protests stop,” he lamented.
