Nigerian reality star and actress, Bisola Aiyeola has opened up about her initial psychological struggles with being a single mother.
In a candid interview with Tope Olowoniyan, the movie star shared that she was traumatised when she discovered that she was going to have a child out of wedlock because her mother was also a single mum.
Aiyeola recalled that she was ashamed and scared that the trend could become a family pattern that would extend even to her own daughter.
“I was scared and ashamed of being pregnant and having a baby out of wedlock. I thought I was going to get married because I was engaged at that time but we never got married.
“So it was so shameful because my mum was a single mum and I am about to become one, I feared my child might also have the same fate,” she recalled.
The actress said her family’s economic condition at that time also made the thought of having a baby unbearable for her, adding that she struggled with breastfeeding her daughter when she was borne because she couldn’t believe that was her reality at that time.
The 40-year-old explained that with time, she began to accept her fate and cherish her daughter more regardless of the circumstances surrounding her birth.
She said looking back now, she was grateful for having her daughter and all the lessons from her experience.
