The Rivers State Police Command has confirmed that two individuals have been taken in for questioning following the explosion at the Trans Niger Delta Pipeline, operated by Shell Petroleum Development Company (SPDC).
The incident, which occurred between Monday night and Tuesday morning, took place at the border of Kpor and Bodo communities in Rivers State.
In a statement, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Grace Iringe-Koko, assured the public that investigations into the cause of the explosion, which resulted in a massive fire, were already underway.
“A thorough investigation to determine the cause” of the explosion has commenced,” the statement read.
She further confirmed that “two individuals have been taken in for questioning as part of efforts to uncover any potential act of sabotage.”
The police reiterated their commitment to ensuring justice and maintaining security in the state.
“The Command remains committed to ensuring that perpetrators of criminal activities are identified and brought to justice.
“We urge residents to remain calm and vigilant, assuring them of our unwavering commitment to protecting lives and property. The Command will not relent in its efforts to rid the state of criminal elements and maintain peace and security for all.
“For any useful information regarding this incident or any suspicious activities, members of the public are encouraged to contact the nearest police station or call these lines,” the statement added.
There has been building tension in Rivers State following the move by state lawmakers to impeach Governor Siminalayi Fubara.
The lawmakers on Monday released notices of allegations of gross misconduct against Fubara and his deputy, Ngozi Odu.
