Police order probe into alleged brutality, extortion of polytechnic students in Akwa Ibom

The Commissioner of Police, Akwa Ibom State Command, Baba Azare, has ordered a thorough investigation into allegations of police brutality and extortion leveled by students of Akwa Ibom State Polytechnic, Ikot Osurua.

The directive followed a protest by students on Monday, which disrupted academic activities on campus.

In response, the police engaged in dialogue with the school’s management, the Students’ Union Government (SUG), and other representatives to address concerns and strengthen police-student relations.

The Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Timfon John, in a statement, reaffirmed the command’s commitment to human rights and student safety.

She assured that any officer found guilty of misconduct would face disciplinary action.

John further stated that security measures were being enhanced through intelligence-led operations to ensure safety within the host community.

The CP urged continuous collaboration between students and law enforcement to foster peace and security.
