Uromi killings: Edo governor has shown unprecedented statesmanship

The former lawmaker who represented Kaduna Central in the Eighth Senate, Shehu Sani has commended the Edo State governor, Monday Okpebholo on his approach towards de-escalating the outrage over the killing of 16 hunters in Uromi, Esan Local Government Area of the state.

In a post made on Tuesday, April 1, 2025, on X, Sani said, following the outrage over the mob attack on the hunters who were headed to Kano from Rivers State, Okpebholo has demonstrated an unprecedented statesmanship.

He also said that the governor has shown how empathic and compassionate he can be to the plight of Nigerians irrespective of who they are.

Sani wrote, “In the aftermath of the brutal and despicable mob murder in Edo, the Governor of Edo state has demonstrated an unprecedented statesmanship in empathy and compassion. That is commendable.”

Recall that some hunters were killed in a mob attack on their way to Kano State from Elele in Rivers for the Eid celebration.

The hunters were said to have been intercepted in Uromi by some local vigilante operatives who found guns and daggers on them, raising suspicion that they might be kidnappers.

The killing of the hunters have since caused outrage among the Arewa community members and leaders with the governor of Kano State, Abba Yusuf demanding compensation for families of victims killed and public parade of suspects who have been arrested so far.
