According to the reports, there is a coordinated strategy to sabotage Ighodalo’s campaign through both legal and physical means.
The safety of Ighodalo, a former chairman of Sterling Bank has been questioned by the party.
Sources who spoke to Politics Nigeria claim that there are plans to harm him in a way that would render him unable to participate in the elections.
“We have credible information about these dangerous plots against our candidate, Asue Ighodalo,” a spokesperson for the PDP expressed deep concern over the reported plans.
“We demand an immediate and thorough investigation into these allegations. The integrity of our democratic process and the safety of our candidates must be ensured,” he added.
A recent poll conducted by EBDA indicates that Ighodalo is the frontrunner in the upcoming Edo State governorship election.
In the poll which surveyed registered voters in Edo State and was audited by BusinessDay, showed that 68 percent of the 1,179 respondents sampled said they would vote for the PDP Chieftain if the election were held today. This puts him well ahead of his competitors, with All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate Monday Okpebholo securing 18 percent of the intending vote; and Labour Party’s Olumide Akpata garnering 14 percent.
The poll, conducted on August 6th, 2024, sought to understand voter intentions by asking, “Who would you vote for in the Edo governorship election?”
