Many expected Osimhen to make a big move in the summer of 2023 after leading Napoli to the Italian Serie A title. However, he chose to sign a new contract with an improved salary and a £113 million release clause, with a gentleman’s agreement to allow him to leave in 2024.
Despite the agreement, a move this summer is proving difficult due to his underwhelming season and the high costs involved, including transfer fees and wages.
The controversial Nigerian prophet Primate Ayodele, in a video message on his X account, Ayodele said,
“Osimhen should not go to Chelsea because it will hurt his career. If he goes there, he won’t shine.”
Ayodele also advised the Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) not to call Osimhen to the Super Eagles if he joins Chelsea but however urged them to revisit it properly, as they have what it takes to succeed in the World Cup and Nations Cup.
“NFF, if Osimhen should go to Chelsea, don’t call him again, and also calling him to the Super Eagles still needs to be previewed properly because we have what it takes to the World Cup and Nations Cup.”
According to The Athletic, Chelsea is the only club still in the race for Osimhen after Paris Saint-Germain withdrew due to failed negotiations with Napoli.
Chelsea has offered a loan deal with an option to buy, but Osimhen is hesitant to accept a loan without a mandatory purchase clause.
