National Judicial Council recommends Kudirat Kekere-Ekun as Chief Justice of Nigeria

The National Judicial Council (NJC) has nominated Justice Kudirat Motonmori Kekere-Ekun to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for appointment as the Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN).... CLICK TO READ THE FULL NEWS HERE▶▶

The NJC made the recommendation at its 106th meeting presided over by the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Olukayode Ariwoola, held on August 14 and 15.

Oyo-born Ariwoola will formally leave office on Thursday, August 22, 2024.

The Council also recommended 27 candidates for appointment as judges of state courts and a candidate for appointment as Kadi of the Sharia
Court of the FCT, Abuja to their various governors and the president.

When sworn in, Lagos-born Kekere-Ekun will be the second female CJN in Nigeria’s history.

Recall that on July 16, 2012, Aloma Mukhtar was sworn in as the first woman CJN by the then-serving President of Nigeria, Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, who conferred on her the National Honour of the Grand Commander of the Order of Niger.
