Abike Dabiri-Erewa: Turkey Ignored Tinubu’s Fall While Nigerian Media Amplified It

The Chairman/CEO of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM), Abike Dabiri-Erewa, has said President Bola Tinubu missing a step and falling during his state visit to Turkey wasn’t an issue to the media in the country.

When a video of the incident surfaced, many Nigerian national newspapers published the story, including blogs and social media influencers.

However, Dabiri-Erewa revealed that no such report reached Turkish media outlets because they didn’t see it as a significant issue worth publishing.

An X user, @Equityoyo, said, “Not a single Turkish TV station reported the President’s accidental slip because it’s a non-issue! But Naija TV and National newspaper.”

Reacting, the NIDCOM boss said, “Exactly. On ground here in Ankara, their officials were shocked to learn that it was an issue in Nigerrian media/blogs. One of them described it as “ silly and mischievous, and reiterated how their country was excited about the incredible success of the visit by @officialABAT, which is all over their media here.”
