ADEBUSUYI URGES GOVERNMENT TO RESUSCITATE a AGRICULTURE INPUTS, LOWER SIZE OF IMPORTATION.

An APC Chieftain Hon. Idowu Adebusuyi, has called on the Federal Government to intensify efforts towards revitalizing the nation’s agricultural input sector as a means of achieving food security and reducing dependence on imported food items.

The commissioner 1 Ondo state house of Assembly commission, made the call while speaking with news, he emphasized that the revival of critical agricultural inputs such as fertilizers, improved seedlings, and mechanization tools is essential to repositioning Nigeria’s agricultural sector for sustainable growth.

According to him, the continuous importation of agricultural products and materials undermines local production capacity and weakens the nation’s economy.

“Nigeria must take deliberate steps to resuscitate its agricultural input system,” Adebusuyi stated. “Our reliance on imports should be a stopgap measure, not a permanent solution. If we invest properly in local production, our farmers will be more productive, and our economy will be more stable.”

“ Yes i commended the efforts of the federal government for the crashing of food prices so as to ameliorate the inflicting pains of the citizens, however there is a need for government to improve more on local production, for importation of products just to crash food prices won’t be the lasting solution rather will still raise more problems in the future, he raised that tax collection reduction is not the solution, suggesting that tax waiver is only a solution on some food items. advised that government should resuscitate agriculture inputs instead”.

He urged the government to partner with private investors, agricultural research institutions, and international development agencies to expand access to modern farming technologies, quality seeds, and affordable fertilizers.

The former lawmaker further stressed the importance of providing rural infrastructure and financial support to smallholder farmers, describing them as the backbone of Nigeria’s food system.

“Empowering our farmers means empowering the nation,” he added. “Once the input system is functional, Nigeria can not only feed its population but also become a major food exporter in Africa.”

The agriculture expert while speaking on resuscitation, also commended Ondo government for the agroforestry policies that will enhance effective management of climate change.

Hon. Adebusuyi called on relevant ministries and agencies to implement practical measures that would strengthen the agricultural value chain and promote self-sufficiency.
