Chelle told reporters that the Galatasaray striker, who had already scored four goals in the tournament, sustained a “small injury” during the match.
Osimhen, who was unable to add to his tally against the Atlas Lions, was replaced by Paul Onuachu prior to the penalties, a move that sparked questions among fans.
Despite concerns, Onuachu successfully converted one of Nigeria’s two spot-kicks.
