Alleged Christian genocide: Finally Secretary to the Government of the Federation Akume breaks silence

The Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume, has reacted to the allegation of Christian genocide in Nigeria by US President Donald Trump.

Akume, in a press briefing on Wednesday, strongly rejected the allegation, stressing that the Federal Government under President Bola Tinubu does not support the characterization.

He also frowned at many Nigerians seeking asylum abroad, stating that they tend to denigrate their country to gain entry into Western nations.

The former Benue State governor maintained that Nigeria was committed to maintaining a strategic partnership with the United States.

He equally emphasized the need for support from the US and the international community to effectively address insecurity within the country.

Speaking on President Tinubu’s administration, the former Senator said, appointments have been balanced between Christians and Muslims, calling on Nigerians to unite against those who do not have the country’s best interests at heart.

“I can assure you that the current administration does not support the characterization of labeling the current security situation in the country as Christian genocide.

“As a Christian within Tinubu’s government, President Tinubu is often misunderstood. I urge you to have faith in the president’s ability to address Nigeria’s socio-economic and political challenges,” he said.
