During an interview with Arise Television on Friday, August 9, 2024, George stated that there is no discrimination in Lagos and that everyone is welcome to come and trade in the city of excellence.

He bemoaned people who call for Igbos to be sent out of Lagos, calling it arrant nonsense. He likened Lagos State to New York City in America.

“Lagos is a melting pot like New York City in America. We do not discriminate about tribes. We accept everybody who comes to Lagos. Once you have your goods to sell, this is the centre of commerce, not only in this country but in the whole of West Africa. When I hear people who come from Ogun State saying Igbos should get out, it is arrant nonsense. We accept people, but you should know what to do,” he said.

The call for Igbos removal from Lagos began during the 2023 general election, when Bola Tinubu, the former Governor of Lagos State, lost the presidential election in his home state to Peter Obi, the former Governor of Anambra state and the presidential candidate of the Labour Party.

As a result, some residents, angered by the outcome, called for Igbos to be sent back to their hometowns. This move caused a widespread reaction.
