They were indicted for gross misconduct, which contravened laid rules and regulations of the Service.

The decision was taken during the Commission’s 27th and 28th plenary sessions, held on Tuesday and Thursday last week.

Their demotion was disclosed in a statement made available to journalists by the Information Officer of the Commission, Saleh Umar, on Tuesday.

The officers demoted are Shamsuddeen Baban Takko, a Senior Executive Officer (General) in the Bauchi State Agency for Mass Education (BASAME), and Sadiya Abdullahi, a Higher Assistant Education Officer in the same agency.

Baban, during the last Civil Service Promotion Examination exercise held on 30th March 2024, was said to have written exams on behalf of Abdullahi, an act which contravenes the Public Service Rules (PSR) 0312 (xii) a and b.

According to the statement, Shamsuddeen Baban who was on GL-09 was demoted to GL-08, while Sadiya Abdullahi was demoted from GL-08 to GL-07.

The Chairman of the Commission, Alh. Abubakar Usman, stated that the Commission’s action demonstrated its commitment to maintaining integrity and fairness in the promotion exams process and ensuring that only deserving officers are promoted, based on merit and performance.

He said further that the Commission also formalised the promotion of some officers, adding that measures have been taken against exam malpractices, as part of efforts to sustain effectiveness in the Service.

He implored the promoted staff to reciprocate the gesture by being dedicated and committed to their work.
