Speaking at a press briefing in Port Harcourt on Tuesday, the group’s leader, Esezi Obilor Rukani, criticized the 27 lawmakers pushing for Fubara’s removal, urging them to reconsider their actions.
He stressed that the people of Rivers State would not accept any attempt to unseat the governor.
“We all know the process of impeachment. Before it even starts, the state will boil because the governor is a man of the masses.
“The governor might not act, but the people who voted for these lawmakers will,” Rukani said.
His remarks follow calls by Rivers State APC Chairman, Chief Tony Okocha, for Governor Fubara’s resignation or impeachment over alleged abuse of the rule of law.
Rukani also warned that legislators who persist with the impeachment effort could face recall by their constituents.
“The governor may not fight them, but those who voted for them will. They weren’t sent there to create trouble. If they do, the people will start the process of recalling them,” he added.
Rukani questioned the grounds for the calls for Fubara’s resignation, arguing that the governor has committed no offence warranting removal.
“What crime has he committed? The last time, they attempted to impeach him without any explanation to the people. Now, some individuals who never meant well for the state are calling for him to resign or be impeached,” he said.
Reaffirming the group’s support for the governor, Rukani insisted that Fubara would complete his term despite opposition.
His words: “We stand with the governor. In fact, we are already preparing for his second term. Whether anybody likes it or not, he will finish his first term in good health. He is a God-sent governor who has achieved what others couldn’t.”
He urged lawmakers to focus on governance rather than political conflicts.
“The Speaker and other lawmakers must let peace reign. They were not elected for war. If they abuse their mandate, we will recall them, and nothing will happen,” he added.
