In a Spanish study including 12000 people, researchers discovered that people who ate a tablespoon and half of olive oil in a day were half as likely to die due to heart disease.

New Delhi: Hypertension or high blood pressure is a common cause of concern in the current generation. And quite mindlessly the blame for the same is put on excess intake of salt. While salt is the main culprit responsible for high blood pressure woes, there are other foods and lifestyle factors too that contribute to the same such as smoking and alcohol intake. But according to an expert, simply switching to the right kind of cooking oil can work wonders in reducing the risk of hypertension and complications associated with it.

High BP is strongly linked to a heightened risk of suffering from heart attack or a stroke. And as per doctors, switching to olive oil can work well to combat high BP woes.
How does olive oil help with high blood pressure management?

Turns out, eating one spoon of olive oil in a day can go a long way in fighting heart disease, type-2 diabetes, cancer and inflammation risk. Olive oil is said to be a superfood which is enriched which plant compounds, polyphenols, omega-3 fats and other essential antioxidants that work well to fight disease risk naturally. These polyphenols are higher in count in extra virgin olive oil and they promote strong anti-inflammatory effects on the body. They also support the growth of healthy gut bacteria, and several studies associate it with better mental and physical health.

The claims were also backed by Dr Michael Mosley, a UK-based author and expert who passed away recently. In a podcast released earlier this year, the expert recommended eating one spoonful of olive oil every day. The expert had back then said that this version of oil contains oleic acid which works with polyphenols and antioxidants in olive oil, thereby keeping inflammation at bay. This preserve memory function in a long run and also positively affects blood pressure.
