BREAKING: Court Extends Restricting Order, Designates National Stadium as Sole Venue for Anti-Government Protest

A High Court at the Federal Capital Territory has extended an order restricting participants in the hunger protest against the federal government to the MKO Abiola Stadium, also known as the National Stadium.... CLICK TO READ THE FULL NEWS HERE▶▶

The order was given by Justice Sylvanus Oriji on Tuesday, following an application by Ogwu James Onoja, SAN, on behalf of the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

The extension of the order comes after the eleven defendants failed to appear in court.

The FCT Minister’s lawyer, Onoja SAN, drew attention to a statement by Damilare Adenola, threatening to extend the protests beyond the initial 10 days. He cited concerns about potential disruptions to public peace if the protests continue and, as such, requested an extension of the restricting order.

In his ruling, Justice Oriji granted the request, affirming that the order of July 31 remains valid and in force.

The order restricts the five leaders of the protesting groups from gathering or parading themselves along any roadway, streets, offices, or public premises within the FCT. The judge also fixed August 22 for the hearing of the motion on notice.
