Leaders have been urged to ensure they prioritise the welfare of citizens across the country and the globe. This call was made to Nigerian leaders by a former president of the country, Muhammadu Buhari.
The former president while playing host to governors of the All Progressives Congress (APC) urged them to adopt a people-oriented leadership style that would usher in the needed development.
Describing leadership as both a challenge and an opportunity, Buhari said it is important to balance both for the advancement of Nigeria’s growth.
Garba Shehu, the media aide to the president in a statement released after the visit of the governors under the Progressive Governors’ Forum quoted Buhari as saying that he has confidence in Nigeria’s leaders.
He said, “Leaders should accord importance to the welfare of the people, not themselves, offering his personal example of leaving office with the same physical assets he had before his presidency.”
Buhari also appreciated the efforts he said have been made by President Bola Tinubu in renovating his home in Kaduna.
He also thanked the governors led by the chairman of the forum, Hope Uzodimma for visiting him in Kaduna state.
