BREAKING NEWS: 2 On Trial For Burning Quran In Sweden

This is according to a statement by Swedish prosecutors on Wednesday.

It states that the two men men, by burning copies of the Islamic holy book on four separate occasions, face charges of “agitation against an ethnic or national group.”

The actions have sparked widespread outrage in Muslim-majority nations of the world, with many calling for justice.

Whie one of the incidents occured in the city of Stockholm, the two suspects are said to have also made derogatory remarks while burning the holy book in the summer of 2023.

The incidents are believed to have caused bad blood between Sweden and these muslim nations, even as the country have beefed up security in antipation of any retaliatory attacks.

“Both men are prosecuted for having on these four occasions made statements and treated the Quran in a manner intended to express contempt for Muslims because of their faith,” Senior Prosecutor, Anna Hankkio, stated.

Of the two accused, Najem, pleads innocence, with his Cousel, Mark Safaryan, arguing that his cient’s actions during the protests fall under his rights backed up by the Swedish Constitution.

The other accused, an Iraqi Christian refugee known as Momika, holds that his actions were aimed at protesting against Islam whie calling for a ban on the Quran.

The Swedish migration agency seeks to deport Momika due to false information on his residency application.

The order has, however, not been executed due to fears that the accused could face possible torture upon touchdown in Iraq.

The burning of the Quran has had ripple effects in several countries, Sweden, itself, coming under fire, with its embassy in Baghdad, Iraq, been invaded twice.

The United Nations Human Rights Council, in light of these happenings, reached a resolution condemning religious hatred and bigotry of all forms.
