A 35-year-old man has been accused of raping his 12-year-old step-daughter in Mambwe District, Eastern Province, in a shocking case that has sparked outrage across Zambia. The suspect allegedly claimed the act was a “traditional remedy” to stop the girl from bed-wetting.

it is reported to police reports, the incident occurred over several weeks before being reported. The suspect, whose identity has been withheld pending trial, is said to have repeatedly assaulted the minor, telling her it would “cure” her condition.

The case has triggered fierce condemnation on social media, with many Zambians expressing frustration over the recurring nature of such crimes.

“The problem is, there’s no strong punishment. That’s why these monsters keep doing it!”

“If the law doesn’t act, women will start taking justice into their own hands.”

Some women on social media have warned that if the legal system fails to act decisively, frustrated citizens may resort to mob justice.

“If the courts don’t punish these men properly, soon people will take matters into their own hands,” one Facebook user commented.
