BREAKING NEWS: APC Accused of Sponsoring Boko Haram, Terrorism and Insecurity in Nigeria

Chief Martin Onovo, former presidential candidate of the National Conscience Party (NCP), has accused the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) of backing terrorism and insecurity in Nigeria.Read Original/Read Complete.

Onovo made the allegation while reacting to what he described as the government’s weak response to violent attacks across the country.

He said it is unrealistic to expect the APC to fight networks he claims are tied to its own political structure.

According to him, several public statements by key national figures support his position. He recalled a remark credited to former President Muhammadu Buhari who reportedly said, “Attack against Boko Haram is attack against the North.”

Onovo also referenced comments by Vice President Kashim Shettima, who earlier advocated for dialogue with insurgents and rehabilitation for those willing to surrender.

“Unless we want to engage in an endless war of attrition that will be hallmarked by the continuing destruction of lives and property, it becomes imperative that willing members of the Boko Haram sect that want to come out of the bush must be given the opportunity to be de-radicalized and then rehabilitated to become useful citizens of society,” Shettima said in May 2025.

The former NCP candidate further cited comments from retired military officers as proof that insecurity is being tolerated at the highest level. He pointed to a statement by Theophilus Danjuma who once said, “The Armed Forces are not neutral, they are colluding with the armed bandits killing citizens.”

He also quoted a former Defence Intelligence College commandant, Kunle Olawunmi, who claimed the authorities “already knows these people” behind the attacks.

Onovo questioned why the federal government acted swiftly over an alleged coup plot in Benin Republic but failed, in his words, to decisively confront terrorists operating within Nigeria for more than four years.

He added that court cases abroad and confessions from political figures further strengthen his claims. One of such, he said, involved a Dubai court judgment that reportedly linked sponsors of terrorism to senior members of the ruling party.

He also referred to a past admission credited to APC founding leader, Alhaji Kawu Baraje, who allegedly said that “we imported the Fulani terrorists for the 2015 elections.”

Onovo concluded that the pattern of statements, confessions and court rulings leaves “no reasonable doubt” that the APC is the “direct sponsor of insecurity and terrorism in Nigeria.”.Read Original/Read Complete.
