The 40-year-old, whose contract with Saudi Arabian club Al-Nassr expires at the end of June, made the decision public amid speculation over his next move.
“I will not be at the Club World Cup,” Ronaldo stated.
“Some teams reached out to me. Some made sense and others did not, but you can’t try and do everything. You can’t catch every ball.”
FIFA president Gianni Infantino had previously hinted at the possibility of Ronaldo featuring at the tournament after Al-Nassr failed to qualify.
Following Al-Nassr’s final game of the season in May, Ronaldo had posted on social media that “the chapter is over,” sparking rumours of an impending move.
However, BBC Sport reports that the Saudi club remains confident of extending his contract.
Speaking ahead of Portugal’s UEFA Nations League final against Spain, Ronaldo revealed that a decision on his future is “almost final.”
Ronaldo joined Al-Nassr in 2023 after parting ways with Manchester United.
He has since scored 99 goals in 111 appearances, including 35 goals in 41 games last season.
The striker recently scored the decisive goal in Portugal’s 2-1 win over Germany, securing their place in the Nations League final.
