Kanu’s family members and lawyers were granted access after his lead counsel, Aloy Ejimakor raised an alarm that they were all prevented from visiting or having any form of access to the IPOB leader while in detention.
Confirming the new development, Kanu’s younger brother, Prince Emmanuel said they were able to visit the IPOB leader at the holding facility of the secret police.
According to Emmanuel, it is important for the DSS to respect court orders which have given the IPOB leader’s family and legal representatives unfiltered access (twice every week) to him.
Emmanuel warned that denying his family or lawyers access only creates a bad image for Nigeria as a country.
He further opined that the IPOB leader is not Nigeria’s problem but a part of the solution to the challenges facing the nation.
Kanu’s brother also urged the Nigerian government to compel the leadership of the secret police to comply with court orders regarding the IPOB leader’s detention.
