In a statement issued Sunday by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, ASP Henry Okoye, it was stated that the deceased were gruesomely murdered by hoodlums suspected to be members of IPOB/ESN.
CP Danjuma used the visit to commiserate with the families of the bereaved and the entire community over the unfortunate deaths of their loved ones.
He vowed that security agencies in the state are working in synergy to apprehend the miscreants responsible for the dastardly act and ensure they face the full wrath of the law.
It was recalled that on Saturday evening, armed assailants killed Hyginus Ohazuruike, the President General of Umucheke Okwe Autonomous Community in Onuimo Local Government Area of Imo State.
The attack also claimed the lives of six village heads from the same community.
An anonymous local resident reported that the gunmen, who arrived in a vehicle, struck while the victims were holding a meeting at the President General’s shop in the community market.
The source recounted, “The gunmen arrived and opened fire, killing the President General and six village heads, after which they set the location ablaze.”
The motive behind the attack remains unknown, as no one knew the agenda of the meeting. According to the source, the gunmen arrived, opened fire, killed the village chiefs, and set the place on fire before fleeing.
Following the attack, the village has been deserted as residents fled their homes in fear. Emeka Obi, the sole administrator of the LGA, confirmed the killings and urged residents to remain calm while condemning the violence.
