The Ogun State Police Command has successfully apprehended a seven-member gang responsible for a series of violent crimes, including murder and robbery, in the Ijebu-Igbo Local Government Area and surrounding regions.... CLICK TO READ THE FULL NEWS HERE▶▶
Earlier, the command had captured two members of the gang, Chukwuma Bartholomew, 40, and Igwe Monday, 42, who were notorious for killing their victims after collecting ransom. The suspects had also led police operatives to a forest in Ijebu-Igbo, where they had buried their victims in a shallow grave.
Ogun State Commissioner of Police, Abiodun Alamutu, confirmed the arrests during a press briefing at the command’s headquarters in Eleweran, Abeokuta, on Friday. Alamutu revealed that all members of the gang had been apprehended and had confessed to their crimes.
“I previously mentioned that it was a seven-man gang and that five members were on the run. I am pleased to announce that they have all been arrested and have made confessional statements,” Alamutu said.
The additional suspects arrested include Ifeanyi Mathias, 31; Anayo Simeon, 28; Ayo Adedayo, 46; Chibueze Odah, 41; Ejiofor Nwali, 35; Eke Peter, 22; Monday Paul, 24; and a female accomplice, Chukwuma Zainab, 37.
During interrogation, the suspects admitted to robbing and killing a Point of Sale (POS) operator, Oluwaseun Samuel, whose Moniepoint account and machine were later used in their operations. The gang also confessed to robbing eight families, killing two individuals, and stealing cash and valuables worth over N7 million.
The victims of their crimes include Azeez and Afolashade Raheem, Oluwaseun Samuel, Adegbenga and his daughter Elizabeth Adeniran, the traditional ruler of Aparaki Ijebu, Julius Benedict and his wife Ogunyemi Femi, Adedayo Temitayo and his wife Mojisola, and Oladokun Mathew and his wife Bolanle. The deceased are Elizabeth Adeniran, 17, and Oladokun Bolanle.
Upon arrest, police recovered a blue Tecno Camon phone and three expended cartridges from the suspects. Commissioner Alamutu assured the public that, following a conclusive investigation, the suspects would be charged in court for prosecution.
