According to the statement, the Chairman of the Commission, DIG Hashimu Argungu (rtd), disclosed this in Abuja while receiving a delegation from the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), led by Mr. Paul Turay.
The team was at the Commission to brief the new leadership on existing engagements and partnerships between the two institutions and to extract the Commission’s commitment to sustaining ongoing programs.
The PSC Chairman appealed for the continued support of the UNDP so that the Commission could effectively take control of its powers to appoint, promote, and discipline officers and men of the Nigeria Police Force.
The statement added that the Chairman also pledged the Commission’s commitment to sustaining and advancing all existing and ongoing programs funded by the UNDP, including a portal for police recruitment, promotion, and discipline.
It further explained that Argungu, who led DIG Taiwo Lakanu (rtd), Honourable Commissioner, and Chief Onyemuche Nnamani, Secretary to the Commission, to the meeting, assured that the new leadership would leverage the partnership with the UNDP and its expected benefits, such as the portal, to reduce and, if possible, eliminate corruption in police recruitment, promotion, and discipline.
According to the statement, the PSC Chairman added that the new team was committed to bringing positive innovation to the Commission, stressing that the Commission must align with the 21st century, driven by information technology.
While responding, the leader of the visiting UNDP delegation, Mr. Paul Turay, congratulated the new leadership and noted that they were at the Commission to reinforce existing engagements and partnerships.
Turay said the visit was also to ensure continuity and sustainability of the partnership programs, to increase capacity within the Commission, and assured that the UNDP would continue to engage and partner with the Commission on all ongoing programs and projects.
