According to a poll conducted by PUNCH Sports Extra on Wednesday, August 21, the former head coach of the France women’s national team was preferred over Swede Janne Andersson and other local coaches for the prestigious position.
The poll results indicate that many Nigerians believe Renard, who has previously managed other African countries including Zambia, Angola, Morocco, and Ivory Coast, is more experienced to handle the job than other applicants.
Out of the 100 votes cast by readers and fans, Renard received 67 percent to secure the first position, while Andersson came in a distant second with 19 percent.
However, some fans were indifferent towards the two foreign coaches and instead favored the return of an indigenous coach.
As a result, 14 percent of voters hope that the NFF will consider appointing a local coach for the Eagles.
Between the two coaches vying for the job, Renard has a more impressive profile, but his appointment would come at a significant cost to the federation.
Finidi resigned from his role as head coach of the three-time African champions after the Nigeria Football Federation announced its plan to appoint a foreign technical adviser for the team.
