Police in Nkhata Bay district have arrested a 40-year-old Gilavu Banda for allegedly having sexual intercourse with his own 15-year-old biological daughter. On January 16, 2025, the girl told her teacher that she was pregnant, mentioning her father as the one who impregnated her since he had been having unprotected sexual intercourse forcefully with her since September 2024.
The teacher reported the matter to the Mother Group committee, which further reported the same to Nkhata Bay Police Station.
Through thorough investigations launched on the matter, the suspect has been arrested and charged with two counts: having sexual intercourse with a female child and incest.
Gilavu Banda, who is currently in Police custody, will appear in court soon to answer his charges.
The suspect hails from Mtilirwa Village, Senior Chief Mkumbira, in the Nkhata Bay district.
