Addressing motorists who were held to a standstill by the ravaging flood, Governor Bala told them that he would inform the Federal Government about the failed portion of the road.
“We will inform the Federal Government about the washed-away portion of the Azare to Bulkachuwa dual carriageway, and if they fail to respond promptly, we will address it ourselves,” Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed told motorists after flood washes away a section of the Kano-Maiduguri expressway.
Flooding washed away a portion of the Kano-Maiduguri expressway between Malori and Guskuri villages in Bauchi State, leaving motorists stranded on Thursday.
The unfortunate incident occurred between Malori and Guskuri Villages in Katagum Local Government Area of Bauchi State.
“The urgent intervention by the Federal Government is necessary to prevent accidents on the highway and mitigate other hardships,” the Governor stated.
The Governor, after conducting an aerial assessment of the damaged road, which revealed extensive destruction at Malori-Guskuri Villages in Katagum Local Government area, immediately, directed the state’s emergency response team to commence temporary repairs to ensure the safety of motorists. This directive came after his recent remarks about the President Tinubu-led Federal Government seemed to have boomeranged.
The Governor has engaged with federal agencies, including the Federal Ministry of Works and Housing, to secure urgent intervention and permanent repairs. He emphasized the need for a collaborative effort to restore the road, which is a vital artery connecting the Northwest and Northeast regions.
The Governor later announced plans to establish a special task force to maintain critical federal roads in Bauchi State, particularly during the rainy season. This initiative aims to complement federal efforts and ensure the safety of road users.
The Governor has also directed the provision of humanitarian assistance to affected motorists and communities, including food, shelter, and medical aid.
