In line with the similarities in his style of music to that of Afro Beat founder Fela, most of Burna Boy’s songs often urged his listeners to stand up for themselves and against oppressors.
On the contrary, the multiple Grammy award winner is not known to be very vocal in the political affairs of Nigeria.
Hence, when he took to his X page to react to the ongoing nationwide protest by writing: “The fight in me Died on this day. Ogun go doggy anybody wey call my name this time around”, some of his followers went back and forth with him on the platform.
An X user replied him: “Oga shutup.. Because they did u bad doesn’t mean u giveup.
“U taught us to keep fighting in your songs but u dey here dey cap nonsense.”
The “Monster You Made” crooner responded: “I taught u to keep fighting your oppressors but you chose to fight Me”.
Another X user added to the conversation: “Because you wan ghost and you de call yourself African glant”.
At this point, Burna Boy who seemed impressed by Falz’s activism in Nigeria responded by writing that the rapper is the new African glant. “I don hand am over to Falz bros”, the music icon wrote.
Note that the “End Bad Governance In Nigeria” protest is still ongoing across the country and casualties have been reported in several states so far.
