A bunker containing illegally possessed weapons was discovered
Officers investigating a suspected illegal marijuana farm got more than they bargained for when they uncovered a massive haul of dangerous firearms and weapons in a northern county of California.
Shasta County authorities found a 100 foot tunnel and a secret bunker containing the illegally possessed weapons and firearms, which included a sawn-off shotgun, on the property of a Make America Great Again (MAGA) activist.
The bunker features a concrete floor, ventilation, drainage and power – all necessary for growing the drug. The secret hideaway also includes a gym, armchair and television. Police found a Bennington flag, which was among those carried by supporters of Trump during the January 6 riot, hung on the wall.
The huge stash, which was described as ” a threat to public safety” was uncovered after members of the California Highway Patrol (CHP) served a search warrant at the Anderson home of 40 year old Michael Jay Kamfolt.

100 foot tunnel

The bunker was situated at the bottom of a 100 foot tunnel.
According to the LA Times, CHP Northern Division Chief John Pinoli said in a statement: “This operation went far beyond an illegal grow. The combination of a hidden bunker and an alarming cache of illegal firearms and ammunition highlights the threat posed to public safety.”
The array of illegally possessed weapons that were confiscated included three AR-15-style assault rifles, a sawn-off shotgun and over 10,000 rounds of ammunition.
Kamfolt, who was arrested on January 20, is a well-known conservative activist and supporter of President Donald Trump, who had repeatedly raised concerns about voting fraud. He also describes himself as a “good friend” of pro-Trump election denier and county supervisor Kevin Crye.

The MAGA supporter who narrowly survived an election recall in March 2024 spoke of his shock at Kamfolt’s arrest. In a Facebook video posted the day after, Crye said: “It came to my attention today that a supporter and I’ll even say a friend of mine was arrested last night, and my heart is truly broken.” He added: “Remember we are innocent until proven guilty.”
According to reports the CHP received a tip-off in December about the illegal marijuana grow on Kamfolt’s property. After securing a search warrant they secured a flight over the area and investigated for a month before embarking on the search.

According to the CHP, officers seized 13 firearms, four soft body armor vests and 30 high-capacity magazines. Two of the guns had been reported stolen, one in 2016 and the other in 1978.
Kamfolt, who is no longer in custody, was arrested on suspicion of an array of misdemeanor and felony weapons-related violations. They include converting a firearm into a machine gun, manufacturing a ghost gun, possession of a stolen firearm and possession of armor penetrating ammunition.
