The President’s Special Adviser on Senate Matters, Senator Basheer Lado, revealed this in a statement in Abuja.
In June 2024, the National Assembly passed a bill approving a 300% salary increase for judicial officers at both federal and state levels after President Tinubu submitted an executive bill seeking to increase the salaries, allowances and other benefits for the judiciary.
The bill was titled, “A Bill for an Act to Prescribe the Salaries, Allowances, and Fringe Benefits of Judicial Office Holders in Nigeria and for Related Matters.”
Lado said, “This remarkable action highlights Mr. President’s unwavering commitment to prioritizing the welfare of Nigerian workers, similar to when he recently paused a Federal Executive Council meeting to sign the new National Minimum Wage Bill of N70,000.”
He explained that the new Act “establishes salaries, allowances, and other benefits for Judicial Officers to align with current realities, and amending the Certain Political, Public, and Judicial Office Holders (Salaries and Allowances, etc.), Act, No.6, 2002 (as amended), by removing provisions related to Judicial Office Holders.”
“By focusing on the financial well-being of our judicial officers, Mr. President is not only strengthening the integrity of our justice system but also setting a new benchmark for leadership that genuinely values the dedication and sacrifices of all Nigerian workers.”
Lado commended Senate President Godswill Akpabio and Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Abass Tajudeen, for their dedication and efforts to improve the welfare of Nigerians and for passing the executive Bill, which has been signed into law by President Tinubu
Meanwhile, Nigerians have raised concerns over the decision of President Tinubu to increase the salary of judiciary workers by 300 percent while increasing the national minimum wage for civil servants by 35 percent.
Recall that the labour union embarked on a protest to force government to increase the minimum wage to N250,000.
However, after series of meeting with the President, the minimum wage was settle at N70,000 from the previous amount of N30,000.
As the President signed into law the 300 percent salary increase for judicial officers and staff, there have been widespread reactions.
@manlike_r3gg: Fulfilling his promises to those that put him in power and those that made sure he got away from electoral malpractice!
@revi_ofthehills: “250k minimum wage is too much we can’t pay”. But when it’s comes to this you are not considering the increase.
@Drsaintdikachi: Judges client d pay well but na civil servants dem d pay 70k
@Oladapomikky1: An administration that prioritizes welfare of the judiciary over the electorates can not be trusted. We are familiar with the game plan
@OKWYtycoon: He just redeemed his promises to them he’s done with taking baby steps he’s now taking adult steps to secure the seat in 2027
@Ishow_leck: Easy to sign 300% salary increase for judiciary but they don’t have enough to fix the country.
@tomi_waziri: The man is already preparing for the next election. The master planner. Well done, sir.. Nigeria will learn their lesson.. The man is playing smart move on Nigerians
